Sewing

I have been sewing a lot lately. This is my latest project. I found fat quarters of these awesome fabrics on clearance, and decided to make Tirzah a top. So, I thought I'd share! This was my first experiment with any kind of applique' too!

In the King's Court

Last weekend, we had a King's Court birthday party for Kynan and Tirzah (thanks to Gina for letting me borrow the idea!). It worked perfectly as a theme for a boy and a girl.

We wanted to have a party for both the kids, even though Tirzah's birthday isn't until August (and Kynan's is June 30). This way, they got to celebrate with the many little friends they have here in our four-plex neighborhood, before we move to Oregon in mid-July.

First, I want to say a huge thanks to Eddie and Joyce Blazis for loaning us their house and backyard! They were awesome hosts, and the location worked out perfectly. I don't think we would've been able to fit the 45-or-so people into our downstairs! Also, thanks to Kim for doing the face-painting (you're awesome!), and to Bret and Rochelle for doing a juggling act and helping with the party setup. Thanks also to Gram Barbara for helping with the setup. And thanks also to everyone who came, for being good sports and helping to keep the refreshments fresh and for those of you (especially Grandma Sylvia!) who helped tidy up afterwards, yet another thanks!

We wanted to make this party special not only for our kids, but for all the neighbor kids that we've grown to love. To Itzel, Leilani, Kevin, Lesley, Victor, Kapryce, Kaysha, Pud, and Kavae...we will sorely miss all of you. And also to our sweet nieces and nephews: Kylie, Kat, Erich, Garrett, and Ben... we will miss you all so very much. We hope all the kids had fun being Lords and Ladies of the King's court, and that you had a blast slaying the "dragons." This party will be a very special memory for us!

Aaron did most of the planning for the fun games. He came up with a silly game called "Distressing Damsel," where the girls had to see who could sing the loudest without screaming. Our voice extraordinaire, Joyce, was the judge. The kids also did jousting and dragonslaying, which are described below, by the pictures. The swordfighting "arena" was also very entertaining. Surprisingly, the older girls were by far the most vicious. And they looked like warrior princesses with the flowing sleeves and gowns!

Aaron, Eddie, and Bret were really the life of the party, as they kept up with all the kids. They were horses, dragons, and game coordinators. Aaron even entertained us by trying to swing from the jousting branch. It broke on his descent, and provided us all with a good laugh and a great party video!

Well, enjoy the pictures! To family and friends who attended, I can provide cds with a lot more pics. Just let me know if you want one! Thanks again to everyone who helped and who attended!
Love you all!

Face Painting

My friend, Kim, loaned us her amazing face-painting talents. Thanks, Kim!

Kylie's pretty butterfly.

Pud's amazing dragon!

Pud is a budding artist. Bret let him experiment.

This one is fantastic! Kapryce gave Kim liberty to do whatever she wanted!

I think this was my favorite! It framed Kaysha's face perfectly!

Leilani modeling her ladybug.

Jousting and Juggling

Eddie and Joyce's friends, Bret and Rochelle, shared their juggling skills with us.

Jousting was probably my favorite activity. Aaron and Eddie were the horses, and we used hockey sticks as jousting poles. Rather than try to knock each other off the "horses," we had the kids try to get their stick through a hoop that was hung from a tree.

Swordfights

We had a swordfighting competition between the kids. The girls were by far the most vicious. Kaysha and Itzel had an epic battle!

DragonSlayers

Aaron came up with a drangonslayer activity. The kids all got foam swords, and Aaron, Eddie, and Bret (a friend) were the dragons. It was kind of a variation of hide-and-seek. I counted to twenty, and the kids all went in search of the guys. It was pretty hilarious. Kynan didn't really understand who he was supposed to be hunting, so he just walked around whacking everyone near him.
Aaron looks like Jack Be Nimble here....who exactly he is jumping away from remains unknown....there are no dragonslayers after this one just now....hmmm...

Eddie Dragon is being captured.
